I Can't Get Past the "Our."
When Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them to pray (Matthew 6 / Luke 11) Jesus said pray in this way: "Our Father . . . "
I use this prayer as a daily template, and often I can't get past the "Our." He's not just "my" Father. And so when I start my day in Myanmar, I pray, "Our Father --you are the Father of all Burmese people, all the people we'll be with today, all Asian people --and you are my Father.
Remembering that He is our Father (and not just my Father) locates me in community and reminds me to think beyond myself in isolation. This prayer then shapes my attitudes and choices for the day. It's a prayer I'm praying each place we land, and in every city in which we wake to serve. Oh, and it works at home, too. :-)
