Set Free Movement and
Life Skills Program

April 1 was a significant day for us in Hungary - no fooling!
PRESS RELEASE: Budapest, Hungary – April 1, 2016 – It is with great pleasure that we announce the employment of Kóber Ildikó with the Hungarian Bread of Life Foundation (Élet Kenyere Alapítvány).

Thanks to commitments of support from churches and individuals in the United States, Ildikó Kóber officially begins work as the Coordinator of the Hungarian Set Free Movement and as the Director of the foundation’s Life Skills Program. Prior to this time she has served as a volunteer with the foundation.

Her work will include building and strengthening connections between organizations working against human trafficking in Hungary, developing awareness and sensitivity training programs, and planning and implementing a Life Skills Program to assist individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or at risk of being trafficked.

Ildikó Kóber is a former educator and school administrator with many years of experience. In addition, she is a local ministerial candidate in the Budapest Free Methodist Church, where she serves as an assistant pastor.

The Hungarian Bread of Life Foundation was established in 2000 as a public-service foundation with a specific directive to work with the poor, disadvantaged, and disenfranchised in Hungary. Its charter includes social, cultural, and religious activities. The foundation serves as the legal identity for the work of the Free Methodist Church in Hungary.

We Need Your Help!

The Life Skills classroom is nearing completion and we've reached about 50% of our goal for supporting Ildikó this year. Thanks in large part to the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church our the new classroom in the Budapest Ministry Center, we hope to have the renovation work completed soon. And based on the pledges of support for Ildikó that we've received so far, we've offered her a 6-month contract. But this will take us only through September, right when we are hoping that the Life Skills program will begin. We are trying to raise an additional $12,000 in annual support, or $1,000 in monthly support so that Ildikó can continue in this very important work. You can make a pledge of support for Ildikó or make a donation online at https://give.fmcusa.org/donation/hungary-set-free-coordinator.

You can follow along with what Ildikó is doing by reading her blog (in English) at http://growinthelord.blogspot.hu/.

What are you worth?

The problems of human trafficking and modern-day slavery are slowly coming to the attention of the Hungarian churches. This weekend a series of events are being held to help further raise awareness and sensitivity. Events include a press conference, a series of presentations by professionals working with various aspects of the anti-human-trafficking efforts, an interactive exhibition, and a drama that has been developed to be used at orphanages and other locations where young people are especially vulnerable to being trafficked.

Ildikó serving as a volunteer for this event, assisting with publicity and helping with the registration process as a representative of the Hungarian Set Free Movement. She is slowly establishing a network of contacts with churches, NGOS, governmental officials, and other like-minded people. Please pray that this network will grow and that there will be an increased desire for cooperation and mutual encouragement and support.

A Personal Note

We have served as Free Methodist Missionaries in Budapest, Hungary since August 2000. Our ability to minister in Hungary and throughout Europe depends upon the faithful support of individuals and churches, primarily in the United States. This support comes in a number of ways -- prayer, encouragement, partnerships, and finances.

Prayer support comes through the faithful prayers of individuals, church groups, family, and friends. You can participate in this more fully by subscribing to our Budapest Prayer Letter.

Encouragement comes through the personal contacts that friends and supporters make with us, through e-mail, Skype, personal visits, etc. We are always happy to hear from you, and we love having visitors in Budapest!

Partnerships exist between us and partner churches. These partnerships go two ways -- we are able to focus more closely on resourcing our partner churches in the area of European missions with more freqent visits, personal contacts, and prayer. Our partner in turn are able to resource us by providing short-term teams, workers, teachers, etc. In addition, partner churches make significant financial commitments to supporting the work and ministries here in Hungary.

Pledges of financial support may be made to the Winckles Missionary Support Account (Winckles MSA) by visiting https://give.fmcusa.org/winckles. This is the fund that pays our salary and benefits and allows us to work in Hungary.

Pledges of financial support may be made to the Hungary Country Support Account (Hungary CSA) by visiting https://give.fmcusa.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=691. This is the fund that provides for the operation of the Budapest Ministry Center and the related programs administered by the Bread of Life Foundation (which is the Hungarian identity of the Free Methodist Mission).
