Hospitality, Seattle-style, as Lands host guests
Our friend and colleague, Dr. Natz Petallar, came to the US for a conference this month. Afterward, she was able to visit friends in Illinois, Oregon, and of course us in Seattle.
Meanwhile, friends from Kamuning FMC (now living in Dubai) were in Vancouver, Canada to visit relatives. They came to Seattle at the same time as Dr. Natz.
We were able to show them some of the highlights of this beautiful city, including the world-famous Pike Place Market and the first Starbucks shop nearby. We rode the monorail up to the Seattle Center, where we failed to convince Dr. Natz that she would enjoy the view from the top of the Space Needle. We especially enjoyed seeing others getting wet at the fountain. But little Anya’s favorite was the children’s playground next to the EMP.
Later, we were glad to be able to introduce Dr. Natz to Jill’s mom and re-introduce her to Darin’s folks. It’s rewarding to reciprocate the world-famous Filipino hospitality!

Nobel Laureate visits WA
Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai, spoke at the University of Washington on July 24. Because Jill is a UW alumna, she was able to get us reasonably priced tickets to the event.
Malala is an articulate young woman, a true champion for the right of children, especially girls, to go to school. She described some of her work in countries like Nigeria, Syria, and Kenya. She emphasized the importance of, not only primary education, but also secondary education for girls, since many who do not finish school drop out after elementary.
She chastised “world leaders” for failure to promote education—not recognizing that she herself is now an influential leader on the world stage!

Dates still open for Fall
Our speaking engagements have been a little lighter this month, but we’ve made good progress on getting events lined up for the Fall. From July 31 through October 16, we have only one Sunday where we are not already scheduled. We’ve also got two Sundays scheduled in November.
In other words, our Fall is shaping up to be very busy with traveling and speaking. But we’d like it to be even busier! At the moment, our open dates are September 4, October 23 and 30, November 27, and December 4, 11, and 18. We’re also free to meet with mid-week small groups and prayer meetings throughout most of the Fall—though, of course our availability will depend on what State we’re in when! See our website for more specifics.
