ENDING SLAVERY | CREATING NEW FUTURES

The Impact of Community: Present

The work of creating new futures and ending modern slavery will not be accomplished solely through projects or programs. It is done through human relationships and connectedness in community - because abuse, exploitation, and slavery comes out of broken relationships and fragmented communities.

As Mother Teresa once wisely said, "What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family."

We are excited to share with your our second quarterly report of 2016. In it, you will see that we rely on the work of teams throughout the United States, Canada, and around the world. These teams seek to address human trafficking and exploitation in their own neighborhoods through creating community and building partnerships. Much of the work takes the form of education, prevention, community mobilization, rescue, and restoration.

The Power of Community: Future

As the Set Free Movement matures in its work of partnering strong with others, there are more and more opportunities for impact.  The document below outlines some of these. Please look through the Partner Proposal and prayerfully consider how you might help us create new futures.

We are seeking holistic freedom for children trapped in cybersex and for vulnerable Roma young women. We are working in restoration homes, schools, churches, and businesses. We are partnering strong with International Child Care Ministries, International Justice Mission, World Hope International, and others.

A New Date for Freedom Sunday

Over the past 6 years, Freedom Sunday has been catalytic for the movement to end slavery and create new futures.

Together, through our Freedom Sunday offerings, we’ve helped raise approximately $500,000 for ICCM freedom projects.  We’ve helped open life-changing restoration homes like Eden’s Glory.  We've been able to launch programs to educate and safeguard at-risk children, immigrants, vulnerable ethnic groups, and more.

Most of our Set Free Movement teams were established as a means to carry out the momentum generated by Freedom Sunday. Congregations across the US and all around the world have moved into deeper engagement to address slavery and abuse in their own communities.  Most importantly, Freedom Sunday has helped us tangibly respond to a dark reality within an atmosphere of worship and hope with Jesus at the center.

The heart behind Freedom Sunday is ecumenical and community-driven. That’s why it’s time for an exciting change.

Starting in 2017, Free Methodists will participate in Freedom Sunday with the broader Christian community. On September 24, 2017, we will join with International Justice Mission, the Church of the Nazarene, Church of God Anderson, the Wesleyan Church, and others, collectively worshiping and acting in the direction of freedom. How we engage is just as important as what we do. Ending modern slavery is the work of community and unity is necessary.
