We’re on our way to Asia!
When I (Darin) was just three years old, my family started singing a song, “We’re on our way to Africa!” Here are the words:
We’re on our way to Africa!
We’re on our way to Africa,
the Lord leads us every day!
We’re on our way to Africa!
We’re on our way to Africa,
the Lord leads us all the way!
We follow Him; He leads us on,
on our way to Africa!
The Lord led us this far, He’ll surely lead us on.
This was a special time for us, and especially for my father, who had been planning to be a missionary to Africa since he was 10 years old…and now at last we were on our way there!
Jill and I can sing a similar song, “We’re on our way to Asia!” Darin is scheduled to leave on Jan. 3; Jill flies about two weeks later on Jan. 18. This itinerary lets Darin return for the start of classes and lets Jill stay a little longer to help with family matters.
We, too, can see the Lord’s provision and guidance for our journey this far. Being in the US these past months has allowed us to meet many friends, old and new, and to be with family during crucial moments—and to meet our funding targets in His perfect time.

Home Assignment ending
This month saw the final engagements for our 2016 home assignment. We started off by attending the Cross View Church missions auction. What a great event to raise funds for local and international outreach! If you are looking for ideas about how to pull off a top-notch auction fund-raiser, contact the pastors at Cross View!
Next we spoke at New Day Christian Fellowship in Auburn, Washington and Sierra Foothills Community Church in Oakdale, California. We were grateful for these opportunities to speak, even though it was so close to Christmas. We shared about the Joy and Love of Christmas expressed through God's missionary zeal for even the lowliest both at home and abroad.

APNTS classes start Jan 9
Second semester classes at APNTS start January 9. Darin is scheduled to teach Biblical Hermeneutics (2 sections) and Honor Then and Now. The former subject has become one of Darin's favorite courses to teach. Drawing insights from education theory, Darin arranges the course to contrast an "unschooled" and a "schooled" approach to the Bible. The goal is to allow students to become better readers of God's Word, helping them to discover and communicate His timeless message today.
Honor Then and Now compares the function of honor in the First Century and in contemporary Asian cultures. Learners will be encouraged to recognize and utilize their own cultural resources as a way of gaining authentic insights into the message of the New Testament.
