Quick Housekeeping Task

Do you ever do a quick vacuuming of the living room, or a tidying up of the kitchen before guests come? Here is a quick housekeeping task for which we ask your help. Each new year, churches that support us or individuals who send support directly need to register that they are continuing with their support.

If you are one of those, please go to https://freemethodist.wufoo.com/forms/z1p6uzeq12b50bs/
and register your commitment for 2017. Thank you!
Dr. Buconyori FM Boys High School
A Big Day Coming!

The Dr. Buconyori FM Boys High School will open January 9, 2017.  Yay!  Way back on 2012 a bike-ride through Kenya raised money for the land for this school.  As time has passed, the purchase was made, the first buildings have been built, and now the final arrangements for the opening session are being made.  This is an ICCM partner project with the FMC Kenya.  A lot of time, in too many meetings, but with the Lord’s help has brought us to this place.  Pray for the cinching up of all final details.  A grand opening celebration will be held March 25.  Some of the international bike riders will return for this event…and you are invited, too!

They Loved It!

Both of us went to the Highland Annual Conference of the FMC Kenya.  Mike served as Bible teacher/preacher.  Vickie went to be present for the women’s NGO report and to help with a Bible Quiz report/demonstration.  We invited six volunteers to quiz, having just been introduced to it.  (For any of you who don’t know, this form of Bible Quizzing uses electronic seats that detect the order of those who stand to answer the quiz question.)  They loved it!  The conference took a decision that every year they want to include this in their conference.   Mike also attended the Trans-Africa Annual Conference, providing the same teachings, the next week.
Celebrating Phyllis' service in Nigeria
Celebrating a Missionary’s Labors

We both went to Nigeria in early November to recognize the retirement of Phyllis Sortor from Free Methodist World Missions.  This was coordinated with the Nigeria annual conference meetings and so Bishop and Lavone Kendall were also there.  The leading avenue of Phyllis’ service has been through ICCM schools, with a particular expansion in the central region of Nigeria among Fulani, nomadic herds-people.  Her initial launch of a school there led to introduction of a rotational grazing system that helps Fulani not need to move their cattle widely.  The wide movement of cattle has often led to conflict.  We celebrated what the Lord has done through Phyllis’ service in Nigeria and wished her well in her next phase of life.
Country Coordinators at the ICCM Learning Conference
11-Country Gathering for ICCM

A few days after returning from Nigeria, Vickie, as Regional Coordinator, hosted a second Africa Learning Conference for International Child Care Ministries.  Mike helped with some of the logistics and was a participant in parts of the event.  Church leaders and ICCM Country Coordinators came to this event from nine countries in Africa, plus six resource people from the US and Canada.  Earlier events have always aimed at the enhancement of ICCM as a ministry, necessarily working with the church wherever it is.  But this occasion actually brought church leaders into discussion with ICCM leaders, brainstorming how to reach greater heights in ministering to children across the nine nations represented.

From Our Family to Yours!

We are fortunate to be able to make a personal trip home for Christmas, this year.  We will be with our children and son- and daughter-in-law.  Plus our long-time friends, the Kaukes, from Switzerland will come to spend the week with us.  Kaukes were co-missionaries with us in Nigeria for several of our years there.  As we anticipate a joyful celebration of Christ’s birth, we wish the same to all of you!

 Inviting Your Prayers

1.  Pray for final arrangements for the opening of the boys high school.

2.  Pray for Vickie as she will be involved with a J-term, part of the master’s program she is enrolled in at Spring Arbor University.

3.  Mike will travel to Liberia while Vickie is in school.  Ask the Lord to bless the teaching and administration meetings that will be held in conjunction with the Liberia church’s annual convention.

Thank you SO MUCH! Your prayers and support make all the difference!
May you be blessed in every way!
